Class Descriptions

Creative Movement

Creative Movement is suitable for children ages four and five. Through music and dance, motor and listening skills will be honed with a focus on  dance basics and flexibility.

Ballet/Tap Combo

 

​Ballet/Tap Combo is suitable for children ages six and seven. Dancers will learn the basic ballet/jazz positions and beginner tap steps with a focus in rhythm, and dance terminology.

Ballet

All classes begin with barre work, lead into across the floor work and conclude with combinations and variations in the center. With a great emphasis on technique, ballet will instill grace, discipline, posture, strength and flexibility into dancers of all ages and levels.

Jazz

This class will touch on all techniques of Jazz from beginner to advanced levels. It will have an emphasis on musical theater and performance quality while executing choreography along with technique. I am passionate about spreading the technique of jazz dance and you will leave the class with strong Jazz Technique and all the fundamentals you need to be a explosive Jazz dancer!

Tap

Tap dance is an American art form and a part of the jazz music tradition. In class, dancers will learn the technique and history of rhythm tap dance with emphasis on musicality through warm-ups, time-steps, combinations and improvisation.


Class requirements: Black oxford tap shoes and capri pants or shorts.

Modern/Contemporary

Modern Dance classes at Grooves Unlimited will focus on introducing and enhancing students’ understanding of the foundational elements of modern dance. The Horton Technique – created by Lester Horton – has been noted as one of the best for proper development of the body. Therefore, students will use this technique  as the basis for classroom study while also experimenting with other styles to produce a more well-rounded dancer. Classes will focus on body conditioning to build strength and stamina while offering basic principles for improvisation and choreography. Dancers will expect to get into the groove by working hard to develop the discipline needed to not only become great artists but successful human beings.

Hip-Hop

Hip-Hop Dance has a foundation of many styles such Popping, Locking, Breaking, and House. In this class, there will be a fusion of Old School Hip-Hop as well as New School Hip-Hop, which includes the more current dance moves you see today. Students will have a warm-up including isolations of the body and cardio exercise. Next, students will exercise their stretch and strength. Lastly, they will learn choreography to some of the latest songs to brush up on coordination, musicality, and endurance. The movements will be quite intricate while playing with the lyrics and layering of rhythms in the music. This is a great class for those that want to have fun while staying "fresh" on the dance floor and rocking out like their favorite dance stars as seen on TV!

Belly Dance

​Packed full of fun and technique, Khalila's class will start with a warm-up, leading in technique drills, followed with a dance combination and then a cool-down. This class will teach you the foundation, history and advanced skills of belly dance. Appropriate for dancers of all ages and sizes. In time, you can expect improved posture, a toned abdomen, stronger arms and legs, increased stamina, improvement in any back pain, stress reduction, ease in preparation of childbirth, improvement with digestions and more!

Requirements:
Please wear either a long skirt or sports pants along with a fitted top or sports sports bra so that the instructor can see the movement and make sure no one gets hurt by practicing the wrong way. Hip scarves are optional.
